La influencia de la competición geopolítica internacional en la formación del capitalismo

Resumen

Este artículo aborda la formación del capitalismo desde un punto de vista geopolítico. A este respecto comienza con la discusión de las aportaciones más notables en diferentes disciplinas y las diversas teorías sobre los orígenes del capitalismo. El estudio pone de manifiesto la ausencia de un enfoque espacial de esta cuestión y propone una explicación geopolítica. A continuación, el artículo combina diferentes elementos analíticos tomados de la ciencia política, las relaciones internacionales y la historia para examinar el nacimiento del capitalismo. El marco teórico adoptado se basa en el realismo neoclásico para analizar las interacciones entre el sistema internacional y las condiciones internas de las unidades políticas. Este marco se combina con la geopolítica, definida como un conjunto de prácticas presentes en la guerra, la política (nacional e internacional) y la diplomacia. De este modo recurrimos a la geopolítica para explorar cómo las presiones de la estructura de poder internacional alteraron la esfera doméstica con una nueva organización del espacio para movilizar y extraer más recursos para afrontar con éxito los desafíos externos. La guerra fue la actividad que impulsó este proceso y facilitó la formación del capitalismo que aumentó la riqueza disponible y permitió al Estado apuntalar su poder militar en la política mundial.
